Starting with a turn-of-the-century farmhouse near downtown Mill Valley in Marin County, the design developed from an interest in dialogue between old and new & refined and raw. The open, loft-like interior spaces are linked together by the distinctive look and feel of lightly refinished, reclaimed rock maple flooring from a sewing machine factory in Chicago.
The clients wanted the house to retain a uniquely large front yard for their children to play, so the house was kept compact with a vibrant front elevation, rather than sprawling outward.
